What can we say about Jason Moser? Time and time again, this kid continued to outdo himself every time he took the mound. Just like his teammate, McArdle, Moser had ten appearances on the mound in 2015. He started nine games compared to Bryan's eight. Moser finished with a 7-0 record and a 0.88 ERA. Both Moser and McArdle recorded a save last summer as well. He kept his WHIP under 1, finishing at 0.91. He walked fourteen and struck out 52 in 55.1 innings pitched. Oh, did I mention he threw a no-hitter in the championship game?
The biggest difference between Moser and McArdle in 2015, in my opinion, was the run support. It felt like every game Moser pitched, it was a 1-0 or 2-1 game, despite the two playoff games he pitched finishing in 7-1 and 6-0 scores. His best regular season start came late in the season, pitching seven scoreless innings, resulting in a 0-0 tie against the LI Riptides. His stuff just seemed to get better and better every time he took the mound. He started the 2015 season as the #3 starter in the rotation, but finished at the top with McArdle. This team does not have a clear #1, because they have two. We will see what happens next month if either one of these two dominant pitchers can establish any breathing room, and maybe stand out as the ace of this team.
Offensively, Moser did not see too much time at the plate, finishing just .143 (3-21). Again, Coach Wanderlingh does not like having his starting pitchers hit, usually opting to DH for them instead. He did see some more time in right field, and performed very well out there. He is extremely capable of playing seven innings in right field, but with the intent of keeping that arm as healthy and as sharp as possible, he will see more like three or four innings in the outfield per game that he does not start on the bump.
Expect another great season from #23 on the hill, as he will most likely start his season on Friday night, June 3rd, when the Blue Jays begin their season at Baseball Heaven for a tournament.
